Crowns and Bridges

Dr. Ghalili, prosthodontist, specializes in restorative dentistry including dental crowns and bridges. He has received training in this field and even teaches students on the topic of restorative work at New York University. He has taught there for over 25 years!

A dental crown is a cap or cover for a broken down tooth, or one that has had a root canal done. The crown can help restore the function and aesthetic of the natural tooth. In the past, crowns were used with the combination of metal and porcelain, but with the new techniques, the need for metal has been eliminated. Crowns can be used on any tooth, including the teeth in the back of your mouth, where chewing and bite strength can be strong. Crowns can last anywhere between 15 to 25 years with the proper oral care and maintenance.

Bridges are a dental restoration that utilizes crowns in order to be placed. They can be used when an individual is missing teeth and abutments, as adjacent teeth can be used as the anchor for the bridge. It is mostly used when there is a denture-less area that should be covered with teeth. These false teeth, combined with the crowns to support it, are called the bridge. Bridges can last approximately the same length of time as crowns, approximately 15 to 25 years, but should be checked at maintenance appointments and regularly scheduled cleaning visits.

Bridges and crowns are commonplace procedures for a number of dentists, but Dr. Ghalili has had extensive training and education on utilizing bridges and crowns as restorative options for his patients. If you are in need of a restorative procedure such as bridges or crowns, call Dr. Ghalili to schedule your appointment.
